WHY I CONNECT WITH PEOPLE

7 Reasons, why I connect with people on Linked In

I take it on my behalf to spare sometime aside to view people profiles on Linked In, to learn more about them before I send a connection invitation. I do not connect with people only in my profession, after all when I meet people at networking events they are not all from within my industry, hence, people wonder why, I want to connect with them and most of the times I get the following questions;

• What made you look at my profile?
• Why do you want to connect with me?
• How may I help you?

To answer those questions, I decided to write up my own reasons and include a link within my invitation to help wondering minds of my intentions instead of sending an explanation every time I send out an invitation to connect with someone. So, here are my answers:

1. Connect with diversified professionals around the world
a. You may offer a unique perspective on life that may help me on a personal or professional level.
2. Learn about you and from you
a. Your profile, posts, comments, likes, discussions …, etc. might give me an inspiration or help me with something I am struggling with
3. Make an introduction/connection
a. You may be able to introduce me to someone within your network and I maybe able to do the same for you
4. New opportunities and potentials of doing business
a. You never know where the next opportunity may come from, an introduction could be the one you’ve been looking for. I may have plans to change careers or start a new line of business. I maybe, moving and settling in your city or country and the same goes for you
5. Soundboard and feedback
a. You maybe, able to help me with a feedback regarding an idea that I am trying to launch
6. Promote each others
a. I maybe, able to promote your book, products, services, etc. and you maybe, able to do the same for me
7. Easily accept/not accept or remove from connection
a. Let’s say we connected and none of the above worked accordingly, you can easily remove me from your network without getting my feelings hurt

Once connecting with people the next step is to meet with them (location and time permits), the remaining Ws questions from the top paragraph are:
• When would you like to meet?
• Where would you like to meet?

Meetings can be arranged accordingly whether in a group or a one on one type events
